Salary

Do you think a company should have the right to pay salary late?
My company recently was late in paying our salary.Because it is a direct credit to our bank account, i didn't realised that it is late til this morning when I went to draw cash for lunch. Imagine my surprise when there is only a few hundred in my account. Or should I say shock? As i did use internet banking my first worry is whether somebody manage to carry out any unauthorised transaction with my balance. The second thing that I thought about is that there is a problem with my salary. First thing I did when I reach my office is to log into my bank account to check the transaction.
Thank goodness it is just that salary for the month is not in yet. After that, I called the HR department to enquire about the statues of our salary. And the answer: Salary is not late. It is still not end of the month yet. What the heck?!?! According to our employment contract, (which I have forgotten til another colleague remind me) salary will be paid to us every 25 of the month. Anyway, I was quite unhappy with the HR answer to my question. He didn't even sound sorry about the delay, but replied me as if this is a joke. Grrr......
I mean, should'nt HR send out a mail saying that salary will be delay for 2 days or something similar to that. We do have payments to make as well you know.
Anyway, I will be check for my salary next month. And will call HR again if it is not in on the 25th. Hehehehehe

Job Hopping

I so tired of working at my office. Not because of the work, but because of the people there. Favoritism is widely practice and there is a lot of politics going on. Furthermore, the salary is very lousy. I really feel like writing the below to my boss:

Dear Boss,

With my deepest regret, I have to fire you as my boss. The main reason is because of the miserable salary as well as the lousy office ethics.

Only a handful of staff keep to the regular working hours. Some will be late regularly for about 15mins. There are also a handful of staff that cronically comes in 1 hour after the official working hour starts and leaves the office before working hours end. Furthermore no action were taken by their supervisors. This is very unfair to those that comes in on time. Please take the necessary action before more of the colleagues decide to fire you as their income provider as well.

The salary is way below the market average. Most of us can easily find another job that pays at least $200.00 more than what you are paying us now. Of couse, the office ethics may be more strict. My advice is that you should loosen the purse strings before more of us decide to seek for better prospects else where.

All the best,
Me
What do you think my boss reaction will be?

Handphone?

I need a new handphone!!!

My current stupid handphone battery is dying. It needs to be charge every 2 days. And that is if I did not (emphasize : DO NOT) use the phone for anything. Even as an alarm clock.

The problem now. I do not know what phone I should get.
I have been looking at the various phones as well as talked to staff at the different mobile providers. Most of them don't recommend one of the most widely known phone. One of the staff actually told my brother-in-law not to get the brand phone as there is a lot of bad feedback from their customers. Another brand was also not recommended as it is too expensive. Not value for money.
However, the phones that are available now are either too expensive, or without functions that I would like to have. There are also some phones that I like but is strongly recommended against getting it due to problems with the phone. A friend of mine suggested to wait til Aug when there may be more promotion. But, will those phones be good to use? And how high will the damage be?

The problem with gadgets... Headache...

Changing Jobs?

What is the chance of getting a job when you go for an interview?

Recently I went for an interview. Not really interested in the job as I am planning to change the direction of my career. I think the impression that I have given was that I am not interested and is slightly bored during the interview. This interview job scope? A slight step down from what I am currently doing but an increase in salary. Got an return call from the company offering me the job. Should I reject it? 'Coz this will be the second time I turn down a job offer. And its not always that we are able to get a interesting job offer.

Work vs Study

My colleague has been dragging her feet to lessons these few weeks. My point of view, it would be very much better if I am going to study instead of work. At least being a student has holidays. After all, there are only 14 days annual leave with 11 national holidays. That makes up to only 25 days paid holidays. That is definately less than what students enjoy. Students have 2 long school holidays on top of the national holidays. How nice. Why can't I be a full time student?

Cat Show

Went to a cat show today. And I fell in love with the maine coons. So lovely & big.. Must emphasize on the BIG.

A bit of their history:
Maine coons are from the North America, originated from New England. They are known for its intelligence, dexterity and playfulness. They are similar in appearance to both the Norwegian Forest Cat as well as the Siberian cats. They can grow up to a weight of 12 kg for adult cats. It is actually quite common for maine coon to weight about 1okg!!! My god, that is even heavier than a healthy 3 months old infant. However, maine coons are gentle, good natured cats. They love to play and may even accompany their owners doing chores or even to collect mails. Maine Coons are also know to play fetch with their owners.
(Information from Cat Fancier: Maine Coon: Cat Breed FAQ)

We actually compared that size of the paws of an adult maine coon with a 3 mth baby hand. Guess who has the bigger paw/hand? You are right. The cat. Just wish that I have taken a photo. The owner of the cat told us there are times when people has mistaken her cat as a dog!?!

Hopefully my family will get one. But the cat is rather expensive as it is an imported cat. The show cat owner got hers from Australia for about SGD2,400. But that was few years ago. I can't imagine the cost now. Anyway, with two cats at home, I doubt we will be getting a maine coon anytime soon. I guess I have to wait til the next cat show to see another Maine Coon

C & C ~ Colleagues & Clients

My job project client recently (Monday) send one of the senior management to our office. Reason for the visit was to follow up on the recent contract agreement as well as to discuss the work, current and any additional work. More like to see whether there is any discrepencies with our work procedures.

And for that, we have to do a lot of preparation for him. Update the work procedures (It was done 5 years ago) as well as to check whether we are performing any 'free' services. Free being done by us but cannot be charged to client. I think we spend about half a day for that. Such a waste of time :(

However, the visiting client was acutally a very nice guy. (Too bad he's old & married :p) We went for dinner and drinks together as this was the first time he is in town. Yeah.. free food and drinks with free taxi ride home. Of course we went for seafood dinner and he was not disappointed. We too enjoyed the free food & drinks. I think we chose the place according to our taste rather than to show him our culture :) Thank goodness he enjoyed himself.

Anyway, we also took this opportunity to get to know one of our colleague better. He just joined us from India. I've forgetten which part of India. I wonder what is it about India that makes most of them look older than they actually are. This colleague of mine is only 27 yrs old. But no way will people believe that. He looks much more older than that. Intially none of us believed that he is that young. However, during our dinner, he mentioned that he intended to settle down by next year as he will be 28 by then. I think that was when we are finally convince that he is really only 27 yrs old. I'm having second thoughts about eating Indian food now.
